Kajal Madeka's Digital Portfolio

Designing informational print media represented the fourth stage of the media literacy process skills (Access, Analyze, Evaluate, Create) and was a reinforcement of graphic design principles as well as principles of visual literacy through applied design. The product design was purposeful, with the intention of attracting a specific audience and imparting specific information for a specific goal, so design decisions were completely centered around achieving these objectives. The creation of these two messages entailed playing with color to create the mood, creating points of emphasis and interest by the variable use of typefaces and text, using arrangement and principles of contrast to create the centre of focus and using principles of repetition in text alignment and lines to convey sense of unity.

The main affordance of this exercise was again in the realm of TPCK in that the layout, and structure of the message was largely determined by the panelled format of the information brochure, so the different graphical elements and informational content had to be balanced around this set format, while still maintaining aesthetics and effectiveness.
